our love is like a gate swinging on its hinge
our love is like a spy on the city's fringe
look through the binoculars in its direction
try to quell the inevitable insurrection
speak now or forever hold your peace
speak now or forever hold your peace
our love is like a third five-year plan
its like a universe imploding in the palm of my hand
shall i compare thee to a summer's day
our love is like a juggernaut bursting through the clay
speak now or forever hold your peace
speak now or forever hold your peace

a billion red roses at your door
a billion red roses at your door
a billion red roses at your door
well i have no idea what they're there for
a mile long daisy chain
a mile long daisy chain
a mile long daisy chain
you say speak up but i wont explain
our initials written in haystacks
our initials written in haystacks
our initials written in haystacks
i don't know a thing and that's a fact
your portrait in vapour trails
your portrait in vapour trails
your portrait in vapour trails
you say i know something but you're telling tales

irresistible force meets immovable object
our eyes first met across a crowded room
it was love at first sight but I've got a heart to protect
and an overwhelming sense of impending doom
immovable object meets irresistible force
I felt light headed when we first met
and it was true love of course
but its a moment I've been trying hard to forget
irresistible force meets immovable object
I've searched all over for eyes like yours
over mountain, tundra and desert I've trekked
but now I'm looking for the exit doors
immovable object meets irresistible force
I followed the river down stream
and when I finally reached the water source
I realized this had all been a dream

sat out by the swimming pool
sun shining on the deck chairs and me
I've got everything I could possibly need
olives and coffee
towel on the deck chair from the night before
mediterraenean heat feels fine
I wouldn't change a single thing
cheese and wine
hotel walls are glistening
strange flowers springing out of the soil
if I had three wishes I'd hand them back
bread and olive oil

my friends were having some problems
so I felt bad
so I made them some tapes to listen to
and they should have been glad
but they said jeremy
why are you trying to get me to quit smoking
jeremy
why are you trying to improve my public speaking
so i put on my gloves and my hat
and i zipped up my coat
and when i noticed their disapproving glances
i felt the muscles closing round my throat
and they said jeremy
I don't even have obsessive compulsive disorder
jeremy
my life is in perfect order
after some interesting feedback
i started off my self employed business
i may or may not have become a millionaire
but I'll never regret the day I did this
they said jeremy
you're living in some backwards dream land
jeremy why don't you keep a steady hand

stay up all night thinking
I spent all day drinking
if I go to poland
I'll be far away from my only friend
I made a plan in the caravan
to drink as much vodka as I can
fake my own death if it seems right
stay up worrying about it all night
and if you see me in jail
wave wave wave
spent all week sleeping
I spent last week weeping
need to figure out how to better spend my time
that doesn't include some ingenius crime
held the money up to the light
held on to the contracts tight
my love is coming home today
and I'm wondering what she will say

girls these days
always carrying trays
going to watch plays
constantly in a daze
girls these days
boys these days
elbows always grazed
lost in a maze
idolizing the krays
boys these days
girls these days
nearly never fazed
living in a haze
often found in praise
girls these days
boys these days
trying not to get tazed
watching the blue jays
watching fires blaze
boys these days
girls these days
genuinely amazed
knowing what pays
visiting the bays
girls these days
boys these days
with their unflinching gaze
beginning news phases
learning new phrases
boys these days

I got itchy feet just living in our big house
I felt a bit like a caged mouse
and what do you give to someone who has it all
a fresh start the colour of cotton wool
let's go
let's leave
let's move to blackbird leys
you're my wife and you can do what you please
but wait until you see the parks and the beautiful trees
let's move to blackbird leys
when we redid our taps in gold
up my spine I felt a chill so cold
and I knew it wouldn't be too much to ask
for bright white skies and bright green grass
our week in barbados was nice
but I felt like it lacked a little spice
and when I got home I looked to the west
and I knew that that estate was the best

let me know where I stand
let me watch the snow fall
let me watch the cars slide by
let me wait down in the hall
let me get my belongings
let me walk through the snow
let me sort out my passport
let me go let me go
let me cover up my footprints
let me remove the GPS
let me work out the directions
let me have a second guess
let me down easily
let me down slow
let me ride out the last few miles
let me go let me go
let me clear the driveway
let me put up a shelf
let me stare at the icicles
let me think about the south
let me take more of this than I can bare
let me just go with the flow
let me close the bank accounts
let me go let me go

there are people in my house
and they scream when they see my food
but i just lie here quiet as a mouse
some people can be so rude
and i claw at the rug
and i claw at the furniture
i'm oblivious
i'm oblivious
up against the radiator
so i lean up against the radiator
desperately trying to keep warm
and i flash the dead eye at the traitors
for the holiday they're going on
so i sleep a lot its true
but i work hard patrolling the house
i can't complain too much about the food
but sometimes its nice to have a mouse

held my head up in the light
looked for a cause to fight for
and when they asked me to choose
I hoped I would choose the right door
got all my initial questions wrong
got through to stage two by default
when I was out by stage three
had no one to blame it was my fault
to play you've got to be in it
and you've got to be in it to win it
held my head up in the light
eased my way through the earlier rounds
made my way through the obstacle course
just about escaped from the hounds
felt a burst of pride
as I made my way through to the final
gambled all my winnings
on a holiday got it wrong and I lost all
that was good but it wasn't
the one that I was looking for

pushed the door open and in i went
saw the faces of the people i knew
pushed in the door of the tent
the light flashed red, orange, pink and blue
went through the opening slot
looked through the gap in the fabric
felt the fire outside burning red hot
turned sharply around and felt my neck click
the wind rushed against the tent poles
i barely slept all night
the seam split and started forming holes
and i was blinded by the moon shining bright

my immune system can't cope with seeing you today
my legs have turned to jelly and my toes to clay
I've been trying to keep the freezing fog at bay
but it just runs past my hands and everything turns grey
my respiratory system felt like it should take leave
it begged me to give it some form of reprieve
but you just waltzed right in through the front door you cleaved
and my lungs are wheezing and feeling peeved
my nervous system said it didn't invite you
it especially didn't expect you to stay all night too
I'm quite fond of you but it wants to fight you
because you send signals flooding right through

when the lights go out
I will see for the first time
we know what its all about
we'll know when we crossed the finish line
eyes will get accustomed to the light
I will try my best to believe
I will stay awak for the whole night
and know when its time to leave
when the lights go out
I will set my face to the wind
I know what its like to go without
I will let the insects in
hands will let go of the cup
I will know what it feels like to drown
then set my face up
and I will point my fingers down
when the lights go out
I will know what it feels like to be blind
and I will begin to shout
like I'm out of my mind
we wont know the day
when the electricity comes back on
but if you pay
the lights will last all year long

if it wasn't for the little lights
I wouldn't have walked 40 days and nights
to get to where you are
and I lost track of the north star
if it wasn't for the crescent moon
I wouldn't have arrived there so soon
before you could say I love you
before I could ask if that was true
if it wasn't for the spinning world
I wouldn't have come out from the cold
into the icy iron air
I couldn't have seen your sparkling smile there
